Music and mirth will be on the bill when funnyman Gary McCormick and top blues musician Paul Ubana Jones take the stage "together again" for one night only tonight.

McCormick said he began touring with Jones in 1988 after he came across him playing in the Raglan Town Hall while filming a Heartland television programme.

"I couldn't believe what I was hearing, the most outstanding musician I had come across," he said.

"I love working with Paul. Not only do I love seeing and hearing him play, but he's got a great sense of humour, which is why we call this excursion Laughter and Blues.

"Paul's life story is fascinating. Trained in classical music and guitar on a scholarship in London, brought up on Jimi Hendrix and crossing over the blues. It all comes to fruition in his concerts.

"Me, I'm there to keep the politicians honest and muse on where we are post-earthquakes."

 • Doors open at 8pm and seating will first-come, best-seated. The show starts at 9pm. Advance notice for large groups is recommended. Admission is free.
