Fire Service busy with early morning call outs

Southern firefighters were kept busy with early morning call outs over the weekend.

A fire at a built in barbecue sparked a Fire Service call out to a Wanaka property on the Wanaka Luggate Highway at 6.15am yesterday.

On Saturday, at 4.30am, a house fire was reported in Hamilton Rd, Queenstown.

A Fire Service spokesman said firefighters wearing breathing apparatus contained the fire to one room and extinguished the blaze.

Meanwhile, on Saturday morning, a fire broke out in the rear bedroom of an unoccupied home in Grove Burn Rd, Tuatapere.

The house sustained extensive fire and smoke damage. Police and a Fire Service investigator examined the scene and believe the fire was suspicious.

If anybody had any information about the fire they could contact Senior Constable Grant Nimmo at the Invercargill Police on (03) 211 0543, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
