'Great response' to new events centre cafe tender

Queenstown will soon have yet another cafe, this time with a healthy profile and located at the Queenstown Events Centre.

Last month, Lakes Leisure, the operator of the Events Centre, called for tenders for a cafe at the facility and Lakes Leisure chief executive Fiona McKissock said interest had been good.

"We had a very great response from a number of individuals and businesses, including from existing local cafe operators," Ms McKissock said.

"One potential operator in particular has been in serious talks with us about the opportunity. But no deal has been signed yet, so I cannot say who will be chosen" she told the Queenstown Times yesterday.

She expected an operator would be announced within a week.

The idea for a cafe at the Events Centre, which houses sports facilities, the Alpine Aqualand and the Alpine Health and Fitness Centre, came after feedback from the community welcoming an eatery at the premises.

Ms McKissock said the aim was to find an operator who would provide a good range of nutritious food and beverage options for customers.

"It would fit in well with the healthy lifestyle of many of the users of the events centre."

"We are about improving community health through increasing their activity levels, so we want to make sure healthy eating choices are on offer," she said.

The cafe will be located in the main foyer area, with options for both indoor and outdoor seating.
