Magic Memories snaps up four business awards

A Queenstown-based based company launched 20 years ago was last night named the winner of the 2015 New Zealand International Business Awards.

Magic Memories, which initially offered photography services for the resort's gondola, now operates at 100 sites across the world.

At the awards ceremony in Auckland it gained four awards, including the judges' Supreme Award for International Business.

It also won Best Business Operating Internationally award - $10 million-$50 million; Excellence in Marketing; and Excellence in Operations.

''The judging panel was particularly impressed by the effort that Magic Memories puts into implementation and set-up of new sites, with the results showing through in customer advocacy, site revenue growth and customer retention,'' the judges said.

The company began after managing director John Wikstrom saw a friend's success taking pictures of tourists on TSS Earnslaw.

He and business partner Stuart Norris went on to build their company around the concept, initially at Skyline then expanding to KJet - formerly Kawarau Jet.

It now employs 650 people globally and has plans for further expansion.
