Memorial for Qtown drowning victim

About £42,000 ($NZ107,000) has been raised towards a unit for people with learning and physical disabilities in Trimpley, United Kingdom, as a legacy to a woman who was killed in Queenstown last year.

Emily Louise Jordan, died on April 29, 2008, after becoming trapped between submerged rocks while river-boarding down the Kawarau River.

Her parents, Chris and Sarah, set up the Emily Jordan Foundation soon after her death.

The foundation aims to help people with moderate learning and physical disabilities.

"We're currently looking for [units] in the immediate area, to make sure it remains a local charity," Mr Jordan said.

Spokes, a Kidderminster bicycle recycling business, would move in to the unit, which would also contain a computer centre for people with learning difficulties to develop IT skills, and a space to "build and sell bird and hedgehog boxes".
