Hundreds of bustling passengers stopped in their tracks as the 13 beaming girls from years 5 and 6 broke out their choreographed and synchronised aerobic-style dance moves to the familiar musical hit in the middle of the airport.
The pupils were Haley Adamson, Charlie Andrews, Nieve Collin, Ella Jackson, Olivia McRae, Katya Moss, Jessie O'Connell, Taylah Pedersen, Lucy Phillips,Alice Price, Sami Robertson, Jessie Rowley and Isobel Wallace.
Teacher Lisa Moore, with four parents and family support, accompanied the excited troupe to the South Island Regional Jump Jam Competition to compete for the first time against nine other schools in the Strictly Jump Jam category.
The creator of Jump Jam, Brent Fairweather, a two-time world aerobic cham-pion and eight-time New Zealand aerobic champion, was expected to be a judge in the Rolleston Community Centre on Saturday.
The children from the Frankton school secured their place in the regional heat by impressing organisers with their video entry 10 weeks ago.
"These kids had to learn a routine off by heart and perfect it with attitude and energy," Miss Moore said.
It was the first time they had entered and they did well to compete against schools that had been doing it for years, she said.
