New police station progress

The next stage of paperwork needed for the new Wanaka police station proposal to proceed has been initiated.

New Zealand Police has applied to Lakes Environmental for outline plan approval for the proposed station in Ballantyne Rd, next to the Department of Conservation building.

A notice of requirement for the project, designating the site for police purposes, was approved by the Queenstown Lakes District Council on April 30.

Wanaka needs a new police station because the facility in Helwick St is no longer big enough to accommodate the town's police staffing requirements.
