Homelands will return to the Queenstown Gardens after its resource consent application was rubber-stamped by the Queenstown Lakes District Council last week.

The free outdoor community concert will boast six live bands and two DJs on Sunday, January 17.

The mini-festival will be based at the band rotunda and run from 1pm to 7.30pm.

Between 500 and 1000 patrons are expected.

Alcohol and food will not be sold at the event.

A person trained in first aid will be on site.

The consent application lodged by Revolver stated the volume would not exceed 95 decibels and the speakers would be positioned towards the centre of Lake Wakatipu and not towards residential areas or the central business district.

Residents in surrounding areas on Park, Brisbane and Hobart Sts and Frankton Rd would be notified by leaflets in letterboxes at least four days before the show.

Smart Environment Ltd will supply 12 wheelie bins for recyclable waste and another eight bins will be provided for non-recyclable waste.

Hosts using the public address system will inform patrons it is a zero-waste event and encourage them to use the bins or take their rubbish with them.

At least five volunteers will pick up any rubbish left at the end of the day.

Revolver owner-operator John Stapleton said Homelands 2010 would be kept "for the locals" and would not be promoted outside Wakatipu.

"There's a band rotunda in the gardens and it should be used. It's a good opportunity to throw a good thing for the bands and the community.

"Long may it last, as long as everyone respects the gardens and has a good time."

Homelands 2009 marked the end of summer when it was held on Saturday, March 28 this year.

Taos, a high energy six-strong roots reggae and drum 'n' bass collective from Christchurch, is proposed to return as the headline act on January 17.

Dunedin-formed roots dubstep hip hop drum 'n' bass five-piece Six60 is pencilled in, along with Invercargill dub reggae soul seven-piece Rhythmonyx and Invercargill ska reggae trio Jah Fire.

Christchurch dub roots reggae trio Soulsystem and Wakatipu DJs K-Lab and Pops round off the bill.

The application was received by Lakes Environmental on December 4.

It was approved four working days later, because it was the same application as last year and no issues arose from Homelands 2009, Mr Stapleton said.
