Yesterday, as Wanaka Primary School supporters celebrated the announcement to relocate and build a new school at a cost of $21.5 million, Mrs Dean said the ministry needed to start looking now for another site.
"It's pretty obvious to me that even more school space will be needed in the future and it would be excellent to think that another school development could proceed without the hold-outs that we have seen in the past."
Mrs Dean did not attend the funding announcement in Wanaka yesterday.
The Opposition MP said she hoped the ministry would now get on with the job and deliver Wanaka its new primary school sooner rather than later.
"I think this community has been through quite enough. Its patience has been tested by the Ministry of Education and I think the sooner construction begins on the new school the better."
