Plans for denser development in Cardrona

Further commercial and residential development is likely in Cardrona following a resource consent application for a 56-lot subdivision on land opposite the Cardrona Hotel.

Brooklynne Holdings Ltd wants to subdivide its existing 11-lot subdivision next to the Cardrona River into 56 lots.

The subdivision would feature commercial and retail development on Cardrona Valley Rd and residential and visitor accommodation between the road and the river. Some commercial activity would extend into the accommodation area and a hospitality precinct is planned for beside the river.

The land is in a rural visitor zone, which provides for a range of accommodation, entertainment, cultural and recreational activities. There is no minimum site size for subdivision in a rural visitor zone.

The company's Cardrona-based director, Kathy Lynne, said a roading network, landscaping and infrastructure for the proposed "integrated ski village" were already in place after the original 11-lot subdivision was approved about five years ago.

Brooklynne Holdings owns a large amount of Cardrona's rural visitor zone and has already had some resource consents approved, including a "mini-Millbrook" development on the eastern side of the Cardrona River where a lodge, 50 houses and a bridge over the river are planned.
