The Upper Clutha Environmental Society was involved in five cases yet to be heard by the Environment Court and was awaiting a decision in a sixth case, society president Julian Haworth said in his annual report to the society this week.

The developments that have been the subject of society submissions or appeals are:

• Bald Developments, a major development near Luggate: The appeal by the developer to the Environment Court was heard earlier this year.

The Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) declined consent for 35 lots in 2007.

The society gave evidence in court supporting the QLDC's original decision but the QLDC came to an arrangement with the developer to support the new application.

The 38-residential lot subdivision is part of a larger 66-lot development, a large chunk of which has already got consents from the Central Otago District Council.

It is associated with Wanaka residents Antonia Susan Allison and David Charles Reeves and includes a pavilion and tennis court, stables, and walking, biking and horse-riding trails.

• Matukituki Trust: After funding one of the longest and most expensive resource consent battles in the district, Greg Marler's trust was granted resource consent earlier this year for a house on Roys Peninsula.

The society says an alternate site is more suitable and its appeal is expected to be heard in August this year.

Again, it is based on landscape matters.

• Cardrona Plan Change: The QLDC has agreed to a plan change in the Cardrona Valley to enable further development.

Two appeals have been lodged and the society is supporting the appellants.

The society says the plan change is not consistent with the Cardrona 2020 plan and most of the plan change should be abandoned.

The matter is expected to be heard in the Environment Court later this year.

• Parkins Bay Resort: This case is scheduled to be heard in February 2010.

The McRae family of Glendhu Station are keen to build a golf-course resort on their farm.

Resource consent has been granted and the society has appealed on landscape and other district plan matters.

• Dingleburn Station: The Mead family of Dingleburn Station was refused consent for a subdivision and residence earlier this year and has appealed.

The QLDC has reached an agreement regarding the new application and is not defending its decision, but the society has decided to appeal.

A hearing date has not been set.

• Pezaro residence: Dr Dennis and Mrs Olwyn Pezaro obtained consent in February for a building platform on their Cardrona Valley farm.

The society has appealed because it thinks an alternative site is more suitable.

A court date has not been set.

The society will hold its annual meeting on June 25 in Wanaka.
