The brown summerstone house at 20 Dungarvon St is the second residential home to sell this year and one of a handful left in Wanaka's central business district. The 1012sq m property has a rateable capital value of $1,625,000, of which $1.6 million is land value.
Professionals real estate agent John Morgan yesterday confirmed the property had sold at tender to a client who had asked for privacy.
"We have no idea what the purchaser intends to do with the site at the moment," Mr Morgan said. Several tenders were handed to the vendors' lawyer and the price was confidential.
The Dungarvon St property was owned by the estate of Edna Galloway, who died in October last year aged 90. Mrs Galloway lived in the house until she died and for many years had motels, a supermarket and commercial businesses for neighbours.
In 2007, it was one of just six houses occupied for residential purposes in Wanaka's commercial district. During the past four years, two have been redeveloped for commercial purposes, one is the process of being redeveloped, and just three sites (including the Galloway house) remain as either holiday or rental homes.
