Kite-making workshops were held in Queenstown and Wanaka last week, in preparation for the display day, where dozens of home-made kites and huge inflatable creatures floated in the sky above the park for several hours, creating a colourful spectacle for passers-by.

The annual Summerdaze festival was launched on New Year's Eve with live music and fireworks in Queenstown and Wanaka and will continue with a busy calendar of events until January 31.

Other Summerdaze events at the weekend included the Pub Charity National Rugby Sevens in Queenstown, the Glenorchy Races, the inaugural Race the Train event at Kingston and an outdoor movie screening at the Wanaka Showgrounds.
