Queenstown Primary School principal John Western says a mufti day with the theme of Canterbury's colours of red and black will be held today, for gold-coin donations to the New Zealand Red Cross.
New, unopened water bottles will be collected this morning and will be delivered to Christchurch tonight.
Arrowtown School principal Robin Harris said a coin trail was planned today and children and staff would dress in Canterbury colours.
St Joseph's School pupils and staff all attended Mass to pray for Christchurch citizens yesterday, and then children wrote letters to one of the schools in the city, principal Trisch Inder said.
"Many of the students have come to me wanting to do a fundraiser, so next Thursday, March 3, we are going to dress in red and black and have a coin trail, making the word CARE, which is the starting letter of all our house groups: Coronet, Aspiring, Remarkables, Earnslaw."
Parents had supplied ideas of how the school could help, by offering accommodation, child care and supplies.
