Scaffolders have started undressing the Luggate Red Bridge, after the repainting of the 95-year-old wood, steel and concrete construction.

The one-lane bridge on State Highway 8A links Luggate and Tarras. The bridge has been shrouded since late January.

It was hoped the paint job would be finished by the end of March, but completion was delayed for three months because of various things, including contractual issues over sandblasting and delays in receiving a consignment of paint from overseas suppliers.

A budget of $290,000 was set aside for the project by the New Zealand Transport Agency.
