Rentals revoked

Rental agreements for two vehicles driven by tourists were revoked within the space of an hour on Wednesday, after police received reports of erratic driving on Crown Range Rd near Queenstown.

Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka said police intercepted the vehicles between 5.30pm and 6.30pm after other motorists saw them stopping in the middle of the road, crossing the centre line and driving at 60kmh in a 100kmh zone.

Officers spoke to the male drivers, who blamed fog and difficulty understanding their vehicles' GPS systems.

After following the vehicles, the officers pulled them over again for ''inconsiderate'' driving.

''They had no idea. It was a real lack of understanding of our driving rules,'' Snr Sgt Enoka said.

In both cases, the drivers were accompanied to the rental company's depot in Frankton, where their agreements were cancelled.

The occupants were two Indian families, travelling together.
