St John Queenstown ambulance officers are used to getting hearts pumping and never more so than on St Valentine's Day, when crews spread the love around Wakatipu.

Residents were invited to order flowers from Renaissance florist in Remarkables Park and pay an extra $10 for the bouquet to be delivered to the door of a loved one by ambulance on Cupid's busiest day.

Up to four officers and an area committee member will join forces with eight or nine Remarkables Park Town Centre bank staff from service sponsor ASB, in two to four ambulances, on the love mission tradition which enters its fourth year.

Crews worked solidly all day last year, taking deliveries around Queenstown and out to Lake Hayes Estate and Arrowtown, to the surprise, laughter and mild embarrassment of 70 recipients.

A total of $700 was raised and hopes are for more funds this year.

Operations team manager Alana Reid said St John would maintain its frontline service at all times during the St Valentine's Day deliveries.

"It's a fun activity and helps our profile and [puts some money] in the bank for the area committee.

"So often we turn up in a time of distress, so it's really nice to call and do something that brings a smile to their faces."
