Tammy Wright (17, left) and Mitchell Stougie (17) are pictured getting an early feel of the snow yesterday as part of a visit to the Snow Farm by a 24-strong group of pupils from Mt Aspiring College's outdoor pursuits class.
The skifield will be the second in the Southern Lakes district to open, less than two weeks behind Queenstown's Coronet Peak.
Snow Farm general manager Mary Lee said she was able to bring forward the opening day by eight daysShe explained that a cross-country field had no major machinery, such as chairlifts, requiring staff training before operations got under way.
Fixing a date for opening the trails was flexible, as only a groomer was needed to prepare the snow.
