South Islanders are twice as likely to visit a national park as their North Island counterparts, according to a survey.
The Department of Conservation asked New Zealanders to "Show your country you love it".
This month's survey found one in three (32%) South Island residents visited a national park last year, compared with one in six (17%) North Island residents.
Doc Otago Conservator Marian van der Goes said in a statement South Islanders were lucky to have 10 of New Zealand's 14 national parks in the South Island.
"In Otago, not only does the public have the opportunity to visit Mt Aspiring National Park, but there is also a suite of conservation parks, reserves and other conservation areas to explore."
