Heads down for Queenstown youngsters (from left) Josiah Baty (12), James Morris (12), Fiona Seal (14) and Morgan Seal (11) as they compete in a pavlova eating contest to pop music by Dave Dobbyn as part of the Youth Booth's inaugural New Zealand Day yesterday. James won the contest and a $10 voucher. The summer holiday activity saw the youngsters take part in competitions involving gumboot-throwing, "shearing" (shaving foam off balloon sheep) and Kiwi ingenuity. They were asked to invent something from No 8 wire, string, pegs, newspaper and not much else. The group settled down to watch Footrot Flats while tucking into "fush 'n' chups" with tomato sauce, washed down with softdrink.
