Eleven digital prints by an internationally-recognised artist are being exhibited at Queenstown’s Artbay Gallery for two weeks from tomorrow.

Entitled ‘The Rose and The Queen’, the prints — by Korean-born New Zealand artist Hye Rim Lee — are taken from two related digital animations showing simultaneously at Wellington’s Te Papa.

The animations, both about five minutes long, explore processes of grief, healing and transformation through the character of Toki.

An intermedia artist, Lee’s work has been shown at more than 350 solo and group exhibitions around the world, and her works are held in many major art collections.

The Artbay exhibition is being curated by DMC Art’s Deborah McCormick, who says "Lee’s developed over 23 years a globally-recognised art practice to produce digital print series made from her 3D animations, that use sophisticated computer programmes to drive the viewer’s thoughts, resulting in truly seductive images".
