Arrowtown’s Lakes District Museum is once again opening its doors after hours tonight, for those who dare to cross the threshold.
Following last year’s hugely successful ‘Fright Night at the Museum’, staffers have dusted the unique event off, though this time museum director Jane Peasey says it is free entry, and a free-for-all.
"We’re keeping it simple this year — we’re not doing the challenges and things; it’s a spooky walk-through, with some surprises along the way."
They include creepy characters who are known to roam the 150-year-old building after dark, who delight in interacting with the living.
Unlike last year, when the brave booked to enter, Peasey says anyone can turn up between 5.30pm and 7pm, "and you’ll see the museum as you’ve maybe never seen it before".
Visual Events is once again adding a few extra lighting and sound touches, though Peasey notes most kids find the museum spooky on a normal day.
Aimed at kids aged between 8 and 99, she recommends if little ones are easily frightened, parents should accompany them, while the characters from yesteryear are also on notice to be nice to tiny tots.
All bets are off for adults, though.
"Bring a spare pair of knickers," she quips.
Meantime, Peasey reckons Arrowtown’s Buckingham St’s "the place to be" tonight.
The Remarkable Sweet Shop’s giving away free sweets, along with prizes for the best-dressed and games on Buckingham Green from 3pm till 7pm — there’s a $1 entry fee, with all proceeds going to mental health awareness, and Dorothy Browns cinema’s screening The Nightmare Before Christmas from 5pm and Hocus Pocus from 7pm.
