Departing Queenstown Lakes Mayor Jim Boult has put his hand up for another chair around another table.

Mr Boult is one of 12 candidates for the Central Lakes Trust election. He will stand down from mayor after two terms.

Another former Queenstown Lakes mayor, Vanessa Van Uden, is also seeking election.

Nominations closed on Tuesday night.

The board will be comprised of five publicly elected trustees alongside three appointed trustees. The term of office is three years and the maximum period a trustee can serve is nine years.

"This year, Cath Gilmour is mandated to retire, having served on the board for nine years, and Rosie Hill has not put her name forward for re-election. In total, five community-elected board positions will be filled from the 12 nominees," board chairwoman Linda Robertson said.

"It will be the community’s opportunity now to have their say on who they would prefer to represent them and serve on the trust for the next three years."

Central Lakes Trust is the largest philanthropic trust per capita in the southern hemisphere. Its purpose is to make a lasting contribution to the community by supporting charitable projects throughout Central Lakes.

Since its inception in 2000, the trust has grown its asset base from $155 million, bestowed by the Otago Central Electric Power Trust, to assets totalling $467 million. It has distributed more than $128 million into a range of community projects.

Voting will begin with the delivery of voting documents from October 20 and will close at noon on November 18.
