QMC announced in March it was closing the township’s only medical centre, and opening a larger clinic next to its existing one at the Remarkables Park shopping centre.
QMC chief executive Ashley Light says the new clinic’s opening on September 8, with head contractor Cook Brothers on track to complete the six-month fit-out a fortnight ahead of schedule.
The new space, which will have a suite of brand-new equipment and technology, "looks amazing", he says.
Although not much larger than the old clinic, it has a much more efficient use of space.
It has nine consulting rooms — four more than the old clinic — and more parking and better accessibility.
An operating theatre for minor procedures means some patients will be saved a trip to a larger centre, he says.
The new clinic will be open for an hour longer each day than the old one, from 8.15am to 4.45pm.
The old clinic will remain open for a week after the new one opens.
Light told Mountain Scene in March QMC’s board had decided to close the Berkshire St clinic because the building’s lease was coming up for renewal, and would not meet its needs for the next 10 to 15 years.
