A new event set to go head to head with Queenstown's Winter Festival has been scrapped this year.

Snowboxx has announced it would not be running its inaugural New Zealand festival this year as planned, due to "scheduling conflicts'' in Queenstown.

The festival will launch in 2020 instead.

Snowboxx is Europe's biggest winter festival.

Organisers planned to recreate their European event in the Wakatipu, saying they would host a ‘‘week-long programme of international music and events’’.

Established by Aden Levin and Rob Tominey, the event was supposed to be hosted by Coronet Peak and the Remarkables.

Snowboxx has been approached for comment.
