A paraglider had a lucky escape after crashing into a power line - causing a power outage in Queenstown today.

Police and two fire crews were called to the scene of the crash at the intersection of Weaver St and Gorge Rd at 4.10pm.

The paraglider managed to free themselves from the power line with their equipment and by the time the fire service arrived they had left the scene.

No injuries were reported and the power lines were still intact following the incident.

Aurora Energy reported a power outage in the area after the glider crashed, which affected Gorge Rd, Hallenstein St, Hamilton Rd and Queenstown Industrial Area.

The company sent a response crew to carry out fault repairs and power was back on in the area just before 5pm.
