Arrowtown Primary pupils have plenty of fun of their own, but on Friday it's time for parents and community members to put on their blue suede shoes and party into the night at the school's 1950s Sock-Hop fundraiser.

The 1950s rock'n'roll-themed night is a great excuse for those T-Bird jackets, bobby socks and dodgy sideburns to come out of the closet. Bands Swamp Donkey, the Frocks and Wakatipu High School act Broken Record, along with Arrowtown's unofficial ukulele orchestra, will entertain the crowd.

The identity of the fifth act is being kept under wraps, but rumour has it that the King is not dead.

Money raised on the night will go towards funding the construction of the school's performing arts centre.

• Arrowtown Primary School fundraising dance, Athenaeum Hall, 7.30pm-1am. Tickets are limited to 250 and are available from the school office for $30 each. Tickets are $25 each for groups of 10 or more. The cost of the ticket includes a light supper.
