A Queenstown builder is  "pretty stoked" after winning  a national award.

A.J.Saville Builder Ltd won GIB Show Home of the Year at this year’s Registered Master Builders 2018 House of the Year Awards, which were announced on Saturday night.

The winning show home was a three bedroom, three bathroom home at Millbrook Country Club, near Arrowtown.

The judges found the house was "well-crafted" and had all the benefits of modern fixtures and fittings.

"Situated in the heart of Millbrook Golf Resort, it has the charm and character of a Central Otago cottage.

"The builder and architect have achieved a great result, demonstrating their design initiatives and building skills with a very good all-round presentation."

Builder Allister Saville said the win came as "a bit of a shock".

"We’re pretty stoked, especially in that category."

He thinks his work may have had an edge over the other entries because of the natural materials he got to use.

"We’re pretty spoilt here in Central Otago, with the materials that we get to work with."

Christchurch company Metzger Builders (MBL) Ltd was awarded the title of  Supreme House of the Year with their Redwood home.
