Lawrence has been head and shoulders above all others for the past few years and going down 26-13 to such a side is not such a bad result.
It had been a turbulentfew weeks for the Wakatipu side.
It not only had injury affect its player roster, but was devastated by the relocation from the district of influential players Ben Blakely and Toi Roberts, thus causing a complete rethink of tactics for the coaching staff and remaining players.
And on the basis of this performance against the champion Lawrence team, Wakatipu is still a force to be reckoned with in 2011.
Meanwhile, Arrowtown hosted Heriot in the new Otago Countrywide format and it took the first 20 minutes for the game to break open.
Up to that point, it had been a feeling-out process for both teams with a penalty a piece the only points.
Arrowtown had done well to hold out Heriot which enjoyed all the early territory and possession.
In fact, Arrowtown hardly made it out of its own half in the first quarter, but when it did it was to pick up five points with winger Kane Dodds on the end of simple draw-and pass-play that had caught the opposition short of defenders on the right wing.
It did not take long for Heriot to bite back with a well executed rolling maul, levelling the scores not five minutes later.
However, Arrowtown did manage to take a 15-8lead into halftime with astrong finish to the first 40 minutes, including a Ben Chisholm try after a quick penalty tap gave the barnstorming No 8 a one-on-one opportunity that he was never going to botch.
Again, Chisholm was a standout player for the Bulls, along with man of the match halfback Simon "Marshy" Williams.
Unfortunately, the second spell was a frustrating affair with poor handling and a ridiculous penalty count against the visitors stiflingany promising opportunities.
The only second halftry went Heriot's way after another rolling maul drive.
But Arrowtown always looked the better team and although it was far from the perfect performance, its resolute defence held out a late charge by Heriot to secure an 18-13 win.
The Countrywide competition next week takes a back seat to the fourth round of the Central competition.
Arrowtown hosts Matakanui Combined at Jack Reid Park while Wakatipu hosts Alexandra at the Queenstown Rec Ground on Saturday at 2.30pm.
