Back under way as stalwart leaves

Indoor Bowls for 2026 got under way on Wednesday last week with an open day where members of the public could come and have a roll up. Summer pairs started that evening which resulted in some close games.

Two teams won their four games. Barry and Helen Black and Jenelle and Kelvin Lockyer both scored 19 ends but on a countback, the Blacks had 38 points to Lockyers’ 35. Third place with three wins and a draw were Carol Dawson and Dave Shand. David and Mary Mealings and Dave Stewart and Alan Saunders were fourth and fifth respectively with both teams having three wins but Mealings winning 17 ends to Stewart’s 16.5.

It is unfortunate we had to farewell Alan Saunders officially on Wednesday as he is moving to Southland. He has been a stalwart of the Central Club and worked tirelessly for the association, taking on various volunteer and committee roles over a considerable period of time.

Friday afternoon bowls has begun for the year and every second Monday evening coaching is available, which commenced on January 19. — Carol Dawson, publicity officer SC Indoor Bowls
