The Lions Club of Timaru Suburban Charitable Trust recently held a garage sale and a clearance sale to raise funds for the newly established Centre of Movement in Christchurch.
It is a cause that means a lot to former South Canterbury couple Kendal and Alan Robson, whose 3-1/2-year-old daughter Biffie has been diagnosed with Rett syndrome, but had shown promising improvements from therapy at The Centre of Movement in Australia.
Biffie is now able to attend the Christchurch centre each week.
Rett syndrome is a rare genetic neurodevelopmental disorder that primarily affects girls, leading to severe impairments in language, motor skills and cognitive abilities.
Timaru Suburban Lions Club project director Diane Sutherland said the club had raised $4117.20 from the sales, and anything not sold had been donated to charity shops, so nothing went to waste.
Mrs Robson planned to bring Biffie to this month’s Lions club meeting, so members could meet the reason for the project.
