The town hosted its very first wearable arts competition, held in the Coronation Hall, and all 18 entries were well-received by the 150-strong audience.
Dunedin group the Gasworks Guild of Gadgeteers won the top honours, taking the supreme winner award and the Trash to Treasure section with their entry ''Queen Josephine of the 150th Gasworks Battalion''.
The design was made from plastic foam, fabric, wire, cardboard and feathers. It won $1000 as the supreme winner. Section winners also took home $200 each.
The competition was a fundraiser for the Tokomairiro Toy Library.
Library president Danique Girvan said the event was a ''fantastic night'' and said she had only heard good comments from designers and the crowd.
Mrs Girvan hoped the event would carry on in Milton, perhaps as a fundraiser for the library, but that came down to the new committee, which is due to be elected at its general meeting tomorrow night.
''For whoever does it next, it's not such a hard job. The structures are in place and Milton can have its own wearable arts competition.''
The competition was judged by South Otago schools drama director Evelyn Mann, South Otago Theatrical Society choreographer Robyn Gardner and Milton artist Veronica Fisher.
A six-person committee last year began planning the event - a competition to show off the creative talents in the area and raise money to keep the toy library open, Mrs Girvan said.
On Friday night a ''Kids on the Catwalk'' junior event attracted seven entries from five children and two child care centres.
