Brain injury survivor Mark Ridley, on his way to Bluff, cranks out the kilometres between Milton and Balclutha yesterday morning.

Mr Ridley is riding from Cape Reinga to Bluff to raise money for, and awareness of, brain injuries in New Zealand.

The 40-year-old was involved in a motorbike accident in 1989 and suffered brain injuries, which also affected his legs.

The focus of the "trike trip" was highlighting the importance of wearing a helmet and to support liaison officers who help those with brain injuries.

The response from the public had been fantastic, and Mr Ridley said, "Truck drivers have been amazing. If I had a dollar for every toot or wave, the Brain Injury Association and Head Injury Society would be millionaires."

Mr Ridley said he would not have been able to undertake the trike trip without the support of Southend Cycles in Levin and the Sign Shop in Palmerston North, while Pets RRR Us had looked after his "many animals".
