The Balclutha Returned and Services Association (RSA) club is closed while the organisation searches for a new manager.

Balclutha RSA president Kevin Munro said the Clyde St premises was closed after leaseholder Ken Wood resigned his lease at the end of last month.

Mr Wood had a lease to run the bar area, and leased the building from the RSA, Mr Munro said.

The RSA was "going through options at the present time".

Mr Munro declined to comment further.

Mr Wood could not be contacted yesterday.

Balclutha's sole TAB outlet - which was run from the RSA club and also under Mr Wood's management - closed suddenly at the beginning of July.

New Zealand Racing Board head of communications Jessica Venning-Bryan said at the time the TAB had closed its Balclutha branch because the contractor had not fulfilled "contractural obligations."

Ms Venning-Bryan said yesterday the TAB was still looking for a new site in Balclutha.
