Council to discuss better sewer management

The Clutha District Council will be looking at better ways to manage its sewerage networks in light of a recent Otago Regional Council prosecution.

The council’s service delivery committee meets this afternoon, where group manager service delivery Jules Witt will update members on the status of the prosecution, resulting from a sewer overflow in Hasborough Pl, Balclutha, last October.

In his report to the committee, Mr Witt said the council had pleaded guilty to the charge after taking legal advice.

He had since met Otago Regional Council staff to discuss an "agreed response", and an approach to sentencing.

Mr Witt said the committee needed to engage in further discussion about policies for managing sewerage networks in the district, and dealing with blockages specifically.
