Decision delayed on old forestry block

A decision on the future of Balclutha's former forestry plantation is expected to be delayed until sometime next year.

The land in North Balclutha, owned by the Clutha District Council, was cleared of trees earlier this year and the council has asked for the public's views on what could be developed there.

The council presented some concept plans, showing part of the 19.7ha site subdivided into residential and lifestyle sections, with gullies planted out in native vegetation and walking tracks included.

While there had been some public response to those plans, council district assets manager Jules Witt said pressure on staff to complete the three-yearly review of the council's long term plan meant this and some other projects were "on the backburner in the time being".

"We're in no mad rush to do anything at this stage," Mr Witt said.

In the meantime, the council was focused on clearing and fencing the site.
