After bad weather caused the cancellation of last month's Guy Fawkes fireworks night in Balclutha, Project Clutha and organisers decided to incorporate the display into the New Year's Eve celebrations at Kaka Point this year.
Project Clutha chairwoman Donna Carline said that when the Guy Fawkes night was cancelled, there was no postponement date and therefore funders needed to be contacted to see if it would be acceptable to them to divert the funds to a different event.
The annual Kaka Point celebrations attracted many Clutha residents and holiday-makers and was one of the most popular New Year's Eve events in the district.
Kaka Point Promotion's member Lisa Lyall, who organises the New Year's Eve celebrations, said that the group was pleased with the offer of including the fireworks into the event.
"It will complement the other entertainment and activities we have planned for New Year's Eve this year."
The night is a free, all ages event and is supported by the Clutha District Youth Council, Otago Community Trust and Project Clutha.
