Family part of wellness

A wellness expo and tips on how to improve family relationships are two of the events planned for the Clutha district community wellness programme this month.

Events will be held around the district to promote health and wellbeing.

Free health checks will be offered during the expo, supported by the Otago Southern Region Primary Health Organisation and Milton Diabetes.

Health-related stalls will feature at the gathering at Milton's Coronation Hall on October 17, between noon and 7pm.

Television personalities Pio Terei and John Cowan will present an evening on "Building Awesome Families" at the Milton Country Club next Monday.

On the physical activity front, Sport Clutha will stage a series of events, including circuit training sessions, low-impact aerobics, cardio kick boxing training and a beach walk.

A popular event staged last year - a wine and nipples evening promoting breast cancer awareness month, will return.

Dr Janice Sargent will talk about breast care and health issues at two evenings, at the Mainholm Lodge, near Tapanui, on October 16 and the Milton Country Club, on October 23.

Other events for the month include workshops for non-profit organisations, a meeting of the family support group, and an open day for Balclutha Parents Centre, which is also staging a numeracy evening for parents.

More details and bookings for the October programme can be made at the Clutha Information Centre.
