Clutha farmers are being invited on a winter mystery bus tour to visit properties where farmers have adopted unusual ways of maintaining profitability in tough times.
The Clutha District Sheep Council is planning the "Are We There Yet?" event on June 12 and organiser Malcolm Deverson said an interesting and challenging afternoon had been planned.
He said it was probably clear sheep farmers were not "there" yet because there was considerable uncertainty about the short-term prospects to gain value from their work and investment.
The bus trip will take in six properties where farmers have decided they have to things a little bit differently, he said.
"We'll be showing what might be possible around the margins to add profitability to sheep farming operations. I guess we are pushing the same diversification message that farmers have been hearing for 20 years now."
Lunch will be provided at noon and buses will leave at 12.45pm. The group will finish at the Greenfield Tavern at Clydevale about 5pm.
Registration costs $10 a head and those interested can contact Mr Deverson on (03) 418-3188
