The public will get its first chance to view plans developed for the proposed Clutha Recreation Centre at a meeting in Balclutha early next month.

Five netball/multipurpose indoor courts are included in the facility, which will be built on the area now occupied by the Dreaver Courts in central Balclutha.

Other features include a fitness gym to replace the gym at the Balclutha Centennial Pool, office space for Sport Clutha, consultation rooms for physiotherapists and other health professionals, storage space for individual club use, changing rooms and toilets.

Clutha Recreation Centre Incorporated spokeswoman Irene Mosley said the designs provided the community with its first glimpse of how the new facility would look.

The group has been working closely with architect Philip Gilchrist, engineer John Heenan and other professionals to create the blueprint for the facility.

The public meeting will be held at the South Otago Town and Country Club on Thursday, November 5, at 8pm.

Concept plans will be posted on the Project Clutha website (www.projectclutha.,co.nz).

Mrs Mosley said the group wanted feedback and suggestions from the community before design plans were finalised.

The group is also assembling a fundraising committee.

With support from the community, the aim is to have the new facility open in April 2011.
