Ferry to open longer

The operating hours of the council-funded Tuapeka Mouth Ferry will be extended after queries from locals.

At last week's meeting, councillors voted to accept the district assets committee's recommendation that the Tuapeka Mouth Ferry service should operate on weekends and special operations outside designated hours, at the council's discretion.

The new hours will be implemented in the 2012-13 year.

• All transfer stations and skip sites under the new waste management contract, which comes into effect in April, will be reviewed after 12 months. Free skips at Toko Mouth (annual cost $840) and Jacks Bay ($470) will stay over the holidays.

• The council declined the South Otago Theatrical Society's $2000 funding application. The society sought reimbursement of council fees for the Balclutha War Memorial Hall where a production was held in August.

Documents attached to the application showed a net profit of $6462.93.
