Local Legend: Deborah Ward

This week’s Silver Fern Farms, Clutha Leader Local Legend is South Otago High School teacher Deborah Ward, for taking over management of the schools’ Korimako choir and taking them to the Big Sing regional high school choir competition in Dunedin.

"It was a lot of lunchtime and weekend practice to get them ready and they performed really well," Mrs Ward’s nominator said.

"It was an amazing cultural opportunity they otherwise wouldn't get without Mrs Ward."

The students reportedly produced a big sound for their small group.

"I've always loved singing and involvement in numerous choirs and music groups was the highlight of my own time at high school ... It's great to be able to give kids opportunities to get involved in the performing arts too," Mrs Ward said.
