Mystery surrounds the sudden closure of the Tokomairiro Training Centre in Milton last Friday, and the confusion was compounded yesterday when it was confirmed the facility would reopen as usual in three weeks' time.
Tokomairiro High School's board of trustees administers the centre on Milton's main street, which provides a variety of training programmes for young people.
The Tertiary Education Commission funds the programmes offered there.
Its two tutors and 17 trainees were called to a meeting last Friday and told the Union St centre was closing that same day.
But yesterday, Tokomairiro acting principal Liz Jack said "a development" over the weekend meant the doors would reopen on June 9.
She would not elaborate, but denied there were any financial issues surrounding the centre.
She declined to say whether an employment issue was at the centre of the matter.
In a brief statement, the board said the facility was "in recess for three weeks and will be reopening on June 9".
When pressed for comment, Mrs Jack said the board's initial decision to close the centre was made "in committee" and was a private matter.
Staff and trainees would have an unexpected three weeks off, but their courses would resume as normal from the June reopening date.
Mrs Jack said the school would be making no other comment.
