New principals appointed

Tokomairiro High School started the new school term yesterday, confirming the appointment of a new principal.

Wayne Edgar (55), deputy principal at Otorohanga College, will lead the school. He will replace Lindsay Laing, who left after four years in the job.

Tokomairiro acting principal Liz Jack said the board and school were excited about Mr Edgar's appointment.

He was acting principal at the North Island college for two terms and had fashioned an impressive record there.

Mr Edgar's wife, Jan, is a former Otago resident and the couple have two adult daughters.

He comes from a science background and lists cycling and golf as outside interests. He is also a former marathon runner.

The South Otago High School board of trustees has appointed a new principal to replace Wayne Dixon, who leaves at the end of the second term.

But board chairman Charles Hakkaart said details of the new principal would not be released until the appointment had been announced in the school newsletter this Friday.
