The new Clutha Valley Community Church will be officially opened tomorrow.
The building made headlines in May after it was taken by truck and trailer on a 550km detour through Central Otago and Southland to reach its destination instead of the 26km trip from Balclutha to Clydevale.
The problem was the 220sq m church, built by Big River Homes in Balclutha, plus truck and trailer weighed 58 tonnes, 14 tonnes above the Clydevale Bridge's weight restriction.
The 550km detour took the building through Outram, Middlemarch, Central Otago, Queenstown and Gore.
The church arrived at its Manse St site on June 7.
Finishing work, including the laying of carpet and lino, the fixing of any cracks, a final coat of paint and adding a veranda and deck was then carried out.
The church opens at 2.30pm tomorrow with a service led by Selwyn Yeomen.
That will be followed by afternoon tea and speeches.
