Two young Balclutha men escaped injury when the driver of a Toyota Corona allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and crashed on SH1 at Clarendon, north of Milton, yesterday. Senior Constable Jim Jordan, of Milton, said the car was heading south when it left the road.
It hit a culvert and then a bank, but the driver, a 20-year-old Balclutha man, and his 18-year-old male passenger were uninjured. Fatigue was a factor, Snr Const Jordan said.
A 20-year-old Balclutha man was charged with careless driving and driving while forbidden.
