Plans for a small wind farm on one of Clutha's highest points are back on the table, with the company behind the project reactivating its resource consent application.
Alexandra-based Pioneer Generation bought the proposed nine-turbine Mt Stuart development from NZ Windfarms in May.
However, it put the project on hold as it considered its options.
Yesterday, Pioneer chief executive Peter Dowling confirmed it had asked the Clutha District Council to reactivate the application.
The original application, lodged by NZ Windfarms, attracted 15 submissions.
Fourteen of those - mostly from neighbours - opposed the wind farm.
Mr Dowling would not be drawn into whether he thought there would be less opposition this time around.
He said company officials had consulted the original submitters.
"We will just have to see."
Mr Dowling said the council hoped to prepare a planning report by the end of the month and he hoped a full hearing would be held before the end of November.
The site is on the southwestern side of the Manuka Gorge, about 15km inland from Milton.
The nine turbines, each with a maximum height of 75m, would generate between 5.5MW and 6.5MW.
