A planned extension of Kaka Point's sewerage scheme may be off the agenda after a disappointing response from landowners at the north end of the coastal township.
The Clutha District Council had been considering an extension but only if landowners, who would be asked to pay towards the upgrade, supported it.
Council water services manager Hank Stocker said owners were given the chance to commit $500 each towards an initial scoping study. It could only go ahead if five or more signed up.
In a report to Thursday's district assets committee, Mr Stocker said just two owners had supported the study. Eight had not responded.
"Direct approaches will now be considered to see whether any more commitments can be obtained."
He warned it might prove hard to justify the project under the prevailing conditions and with Kaka Point ratepayers facing imminent rates to pay for sewerage treatment upgrades.
