Construction began with a ceremonial sod turning on September 14, 2022.
After 19 months staff, pupils and the community were pleased to be settling in.
"The construction company have been excellent in working around our normal school days as much as possible, and we’ve been able to use elements of the building process to complement some of our programme," principal Val Ward said.
The new building features remote classroom environmental monitoring, six sound and heat insulated classrooms with breakout space containing kitchens and areas for staff, and has solar panels and wool carpet.
"It’s designed with the flexibility to meet diverse learning needs. The children have settled in and got used to it very quickly."
The previous school building was completed in 2008 for $4.5 million, but a range of health and structural concerns resulting from a leaking roof, including black mould and non-functioning doors, led to the Ministry of Education announcing in 2019 it would have to be rebuilt.
It had been hoped the multimillion-dollar replacement project would be completed in 2022, but the Covid-19 pandemic put plans on hold.
Representatives attending the ceremony were unable to comment on the cost of the project.
