Project Clutha, which has planned the festival, said the gathering on Balclutha's riverbank would be one of the biggest events of the year.
The word from group chairwoman Sarah Andrew was simple: "Have a relaxing weekend this Waitangi weekend and get ready to party on Saturday, February 14, as it's going to be a big day."
Last-minute details were being finalised for the Valentine's Day event, she said.
The day starts at 9am with registrations for the duathlon and recreational walk. Early registration fees close on Monday.
For those wanting to savour the food and drink instead of the energy and effort of the physical events, Miss Andrew said they too would be spoiled for choice. New items such as smoothies, juices, ice-creams, strawberries, deluxe sandwiches, pancakes and a hangi would feature on the menu, while the traditional fare of hot dogs, sausages and chips would be available too.
Children's entertainment was a high priority, Miss Andrew said.
"We would like the whole family to come down and have a great day without it costing a fortune."
The free bouncy castle, balloon sculptures, a large water slide down the riverbank and a quiet area for children to do some colouring in would all be provided, while the hole-in-one golf competition would offer the chance to win $500 cash.
Miss Andrew said organisers were still looking for a community group to do some face-painting. Organisers could supply all the products, but needed a group to take charge of that event on the day.
The other big occasion would be the wedding of Balclutha couple Steven Shearer and Mandie Brown at 1pm.
